Three outstanding works of Werner Herzog with Klaus Kinski now with Europe's Finest
In 2009 the Time magazine voted him as one of the 100 most influential
people of the world: The film director Werner Herzog. Europe's Finest is now presenting three of his most important works in 2k DCI
quality: AGUIRRE -- WRATH OF GOD; NOSFERATU, THE VAMPYRE, and
FITZCARRALDO are now available for digital cinemas across Europe.
All three films star Klaus Kinski as the main cast, an actor with whom Herzog shared a love-hate relationship: "We behaved like two critical masses which resulted in a dangerous mixture as soon as they touched (....) We belonged together, we were ready to go down together" is how Werner Herzog described his relation to Kinski (My Best Fiend -- Klaus Kinski, 1999).The tension between the director and his favorite actor created an intensity that is still visible on the big screen.
"Europe's Finest is happy to offer these films of an exceptional European director. These films are an important step ahead in our effort to save the European film heritage for the digital age", says Tilman Scheel, CEO of Europe's Finest.
Films of Werner Herzog at Europe's Finest:
AGUIRRE -- WRATH OF GOD
Available at Europe's Finest on DCP
The story follows the travels of Spanish soldier Lope de Aguirre, who leads a group of conquistadores down the Amazon River in South America in search of the legendary city of gold, El Dorado. Using a minimalist story and dialogue, the film creates a vision of madness and folly, counterpointed by the lush but unforgiving Amazonian jungle.
FITZCARRALDO
Available at Europe's Finest on DCP
Brian Sweeney "Fitzcarraldo" Fitzgerald, a lover of opera and a great fan of the famous tenor Enrico Caruso, dreams of building an opera house in Iquitos. To make his dream come true Fitzcarraldo buys a steamer to raise money in the rubber business. He discovers a parcel which is unclaimed since the parcel is cut off from the Amazon by a treacherous set of rapids. His idea is to physically pull his three-story, 320-ton steamer over a muddy hillside to reach another river without negotiating the rapids.
NOSFERATU
Available at Europe's Finest on DCP
Jonathan Harker, an estate agent in Wismar, travels to Transylvania, leaving his young wife Lucy behind at home, to sell a house in Wismar to Count Dracula. The Count immediately agrees to purchase the Wismar property after he sees a small portrait of Harkes wife, Lucy. He travels to Wismar by boat while more and more terrifying events occur.
