Robert Enrico's follow-up to his fine "les aventuriers" casts the same actress, Joanna Shimkus, as the heroine with Katina Paxinou as Aunt Zita.
Aunt Zita lies on her deathbed. Her niece Annie found her, unconscious, eight days ago after her return from college. Annie is a serious young woman who was raised by her Aunt Zita and her widowed mother, Yvette. After watching over the old woman day and night for a week, Yvette and Annie are exhausted. They give in to the doctor who hires a night nurse. Annie escapes from the heavy atmosphere at home looking for a little happiness and tenderness. All through the night she meets all sorts of strange, fascinating or ugly people. When morning comes, Annie is a woman and no longer a child. Zita died while Annie first encounters love.
